Covid-19 was a shocking disaster to all of us, changing how we live drastically over the past year. Everyone in the world was affected by this monster one way or another, some people got really sick, some lost their loved ones, and all of us have to stop something or another we love to do. Being a student, COVID had a great impact on my studies and studying from home meant I rarely got to see my friends. So most of my time last year was spent at home, like a hermit crab, looking at screens and finding things to do around the house. My family was able to get out here and there, but the social life of typically vibrant Vancouver was seriously limited by the pandemic. So, the following pictures is a glimpse into the slow and boring time I spent under the shadow of COVID, and some moments that made me happy during these hard times.

This was July 2020 after the first lockdown in Vancouver. During this pandemic, we couldn’t go anywhere else other than outside activities. We decided to go strawberry picking after being in lockdown for almost 4 months. I really enjoyed that day, seeing others healthy and happy after staying in their homes for months. This photo was taken by my mom, our family really enjoyed that day of outside activities.
This photo was taken in Gastown in February 2021. It was our third lockdown, and for safety reasons, we only went outside at night where there aren’t a lot of people. The lights on the side of the trees were beautiful and caught my eyes, so I decided to take this picture. Typically, this area in Gastown is packed with people every evening, so it is surreal and kind of sad to see it empty like this. Covid have kept up inside of our houses for more than a year now and I am really looking forward to it ending the vaccines that we are slowly receiving.
This picture was taken in June 2020. That was the day I cleared out my house's cabinet and realized that I don’t have enough materials to bake a cake that I have been wanting to bake for a while. I have decided to plan grocery shopping with my family because lockdown doesn’t allow us to go grocery shopping as easy as before.
This picture was taken in May 2021. I was in online school and couldn’t go outside for weeks. These raccoons always come by our houses and stay around for a while. They really entertain me and seeing how cute and fun they make me very happy and joyful. I wish they come by more so that quarantine isn’t as boring as before.
